I have been working in Smith's SuperValu in Navan for over 15 years. I moved to Ireland when I was 20 years old and it was my first job here (and the only one so far!). I started as a Sales Assistant in the Deli, was mentored by the Store Manager and Musgrave Food Advisor and got promoted to Deli Manager after 2 years. I've been in that role ever since. I am also a Food Safety Champion promoting food safety legislation in the store and encouraging other team members to follow good food safety practices, as training, supervision, and instruction are essential legal requirements for all food handlers.
I enjoy being around people. Working directly with customers can be challenging sometimes but I find it highly rewarding. My role involves a lot of interaction with customers and other team members. What I also like about working at SuperValu is the flexibility with hours that help me to achieve a good work-life balance. I am proud to be a part of a team that feels like a family at this stage.
When I was offered a Manager role I knew that moving into management requires a completely new set of skills. I decided to go back to college and did a Certificate in First Line Management followed by a Degree 3 years later. As I've been working in Smith's SuperValu for so long there are numerous training courses that have participated in. The most recent ones are Food Safety and Six Sigma training.
I love the feeling of achievement I get when I have worked towards something important, and I know all my hard work paid off. I’m very proud to say that this year we won a SuperValu Store of the Year Award and being part of the winning team is the best feeling ever.
