Iga Bartoszewic

Deli Manager, SuperValu Navan, Meath

I have been working in Smith's SuperValu in Navan for over 15 years. I moved to Ireland when I was 20 years old and it was my first job here (and the only one so far!).  I started as a Sales Assistant in the Deli, was mentored by the Store Manager and Musgrave Food Advisor and got promoted to Deli Manager after 2 years. I've been in that role ever since.  I am also a Food Safety Champion promoting food safety legislation in the store and encouraging other team members to follow good food safety practices, as training, supervision, and instruction are essential legal requirements for all food handlers

Kevin Morgan

Store Manager, SuperValu Togher, Cork

I began my career in retail, working part-time while I was studying at college. I liked retail because I made friends, liked being on my feet and feeling space around me in the store. At this time I worked in the grocery department and learnt how to merchandise, order, stocktake, manage compliance and deliver great customer service. I also learnt some key behaviours that have stuck with me throughout my career - the importance of showing up on time, looking the part, being part of a team and having each other's back.

After finishing my college diploma in financial management, I started in a management position with a fashion and homeware retail store, in the drapery/hardware department. However, after a period of time I realised that my real passion was food retailing and I wanted to return to this.  I took up a position with the Nally’s Supervalu in Kildare as a Trainee Manager, where I received great training and experience and worked in a fantastic team who really supported each other.

Store Manager, SuperValu Wellingtonbridge, Wexford

My career in retail started when I was 16 years old and I was still in school, working in SuperValu Wellingtonbridge part-time, on evenings and weekends.  I was an Honours student up to Leaving Cert year but chose not to go to college after finishing school.  I knew even back then that I wanted a career in retail.

I started my position as a Trainee Manager when I was 19 years of age and within one year my manager put me on the Musgrave Trainee Manager programme.  The training included completing a rotation around the store, spending 3 months in different areas, project work and working though the challenges and learnings along the way.

Declan Dempsey

Group Bakery Manager, SuperValu, Wexford

I began my career in retail seven years ago. Before this time I had worked in a factory, in construction and owned my own business. In 2010 due to the economic crash I found myself without a business and a job. I needed to diversify and took up a cookery course for ten weeks in the interim as I liked to cook. This began my love affair for cooking and, in particular, baking.

I went onto complete a three-year degree programme in DIT (now TU Dublin) at 40 years old. I had a tough time at school and never really understood why. It was when I was at college that I finally went and did something about it and I was then diagnosed with dyslexia. The college really understood what was required from me, how to support me and how to enable me to learn and develop with dyslexia. So much so that I was awarded Student of the Year and won a scholarship to Belgium, Germany and Poland.
